FRECKLE FLORAL DESIGN PRINCIPALS

A Colorado Wedding Florist Inspired by Season and Landscape

Our design principles are at the core of how we approach every event and floral design. As a Colorado wedding florist rooted in the mountain and farm landscapes of this state, our work is guided by nature, seasonality, and thoughtful intention.

Colorado is not simply a backdrop to us. It shapes everything. From high alpine meadows to golden prairie grasses, from late summer dahlias to fleeting autumn aspens, the rhythm of this place informs the flowers we choose and the way we design. We believe wedding florals should feel grounded in their setting and reflective of the land surrounding them.

Designing weddings in Colorado requires both artistry and awareness. Elevation, light, shifting weather patterns, and regional microclimates all influence how flowers behave and how a space is experienced. With years of experience designing mountain and outdoor weddings across the state, we approach each event with a deep understanding of environment, movement, and scale.

The result is floral design that feels dynamic, dimensional, and distinctly Colorado.

Locally grown Colorado Flowers

FUNKY FLOWERS

Our name is an ode to this principle. We absolutely adore flowers that are perfectly freckled. We believe blooms with unique coloring truly elevate a design because they create harmony when paired with other flowers. By that we mean flowers with nuanced hues and watercolor petals can subtly pull tones from surrounding blooms. They make your eyes dance when you take them in.

We scour the markets and local farms for unique varieties. This might be ruffled blooms, freckled petals, or striations on leaves that feel unexpected. In short, we look for flowers that are not the classic varieties you would find at the grocery store, but instead distinctive blooms that feel at home in a refined Colorado mountain wedding or romantic farm celebration.

SEASONAL BLOOMS

Seasonality drives great design for many reasons. First, seasonal flowers are at their peak. They look full, vibrant, and alive. When you use a flower during its natural season, you can trust it to be as fresh and expressive as possible.

Second, seasonality is closely tied to sustainability. Choosing flowers that are in season helps minimize their carbon footprint. Often, we source seasonal blooms from local farmers, and we also grow many of the flowers ourselves. Beyond purchasing flowers, we are supporting our local community.

We maintain close relationships with farms in our area and know that many use regenerative practices that care for the soil and surrounding ecosystems. The impact of buying local, sustainable flowers extends far beyond what you see on the surface. Supporting local growers helps protect the land we live and work on while strengthening the community around us.

UNEXPECTED ELEMENTS

When planning our designs, we do not think only about flowers. While we are floral designers, our approach to Colorado wedding design goes beyond the flower market. We think holistically about color, texture, and overall aesthetic.

The elements we use go hand in hand with seasonality because we consider everything growing around us in the Colorado landscape. We look at fruits, vegetables, grasses, and plants that feel natural to the setting. If an unexpected element complements the palette, we incorporate it into the design.

This layered approach creates arrangements that feel grounded in place, especially for mountain weddings and farm weddings where the surrounding environment is part of the story.

DYNAMIC DESIGNS

We have spent years refining dynamic, dimensional floral design. Flowers are meant to be three dimensional. They are meant to be experienced, not simply observed like a painting on a wall.

When we approach wedding florals, our intention is to draw you in and make you pause. Good design is eye catching and meant to be enjoyed from every angle. This is especially important for outdoor Colorado weddings, where guests move through spaces and experience arrangements from multiple perspectives.

Dynamic designs have layers and depth on every plane. Every flower has space to move and complement the blooms around it. The composition should feel like a symphony, each stem building upon the next and telling its own quiet story.

Our designs are never flat. They always carry a whimsical, slightly wild quality that reflects the beauty of Colorado’s natural landscapes.

Make it stand out

STYLING

Styling goes beyond flowers alone. If you tell us you want a centerpiece, we will ask where the flowers will live. Is the table round or rectangular? How large is it? What color are the linens? Will the meal be plated or served family style?

How a centerpiece interacts with its environment matters. It influences scale, proportion, and supporting elements. We believe wedding flowers should support the overall story of the event and venue.

For that reason, we think holistically about each Colorado wedding setting, whether it is a mountain venue, a barn, or a garden estate. We often incorporate fruits, vegetables, candles, and layered details to elevate a centerpiece into a fully styled tablescape.

For rectangular tables, one arrangement alone can feel sparse. Instead, we may design two arrangements with candles throughout, or one main piece supported by smaller companion designs. The goal is always to create a table that feels intentional, abundant, and complete.
