The artist behind freckle
Lily, here.
I’ve been working with flowers for about ten years now, but my love for design and the natural world started long before that. I’ve always been the kind of person who notices things — the color of a leaf as it turns in late fall, the texture of moss on stone, the way light hits petals just before dusk. I’m endlessly drawn to the subtle markings in nature — the freckles on a petal, the veins in a leaf, the patterns that make each flower entirely its own. Those small, fleeting details are what inspired the name Freckle Floral — and they’ve always felt like quiet invitations to slow down and pay attention.
That curiosity turned into a tactile need to create — to take what I saw in nature and build something that could be felt as much as it could be seen. I’ve never been great at keeping my hands to myself in a museum; when something intrigues me, I want to touch it, understand it, experience it fully. Floral design became the space where that instinct — to see, touch, and feel beauty — finally made sense.
When I design, I think in layers and textures, like piecing together a puzzle made of color, scent, and movement. I love mixing traditional blooms with unorthodox elements — fruits, vegetables, branches, herbs — anything that tells a story about the season and the place it came from. My process is meditative: slowing down enough to listen to what each stem wants to do and finding balance between the natural shape of things and the story we’re trying to tell.
Sustainability isn’t a trend for me; it’s the root of everything I do. I grow many of the flowers I use, implementing regenerative growing practices, or I source from local farmers who care for the land the same way. I work with reusable materials and skip anything that harms the soil, the blooms, or the humans touching the flowers — no floral foam, no chemicals, no shortcuts. It’s my way of giving back to the earth that inspires me every day.
At its heart, my work is about connection — between people, seasons, and the quiet beauty that already exists all around us. Flowers are just my way of telling that story.
